I ran across this site a while back; it’s dedicated to posting pictures of those teen celebrities that were made by Disney. I can’t say it’s surprising, but I still find it depressing that this is who pre-teen girls are looking up to. I can’t even think of who were the role models while I was growing up, but I’m pretty sure it was more like this and this. It was definitely not this. And if this is any indication of normal non-celebrity girls – thank god I am not growing up now.

Other things I learned from this site:

  • Miley Cyrus wears terrible, terrible clothes.
  • I don’t really know who Ashley Tisdale is, but I think she should rethink her image.
  • Selena Gomez is super cute – but this was an awful idea – she looks like she’s pretending to be 40.
  • I have absolutely no idea who this Demi girl is.
  • Disney should go back to creating princesses.
  • I am clearly too old to understand anymore.

ps. WordPress spell check doesn’t know Demi either! But it does know Miley, Ashely and Selena. I think that says something about your celebrity status.

  1. It might just be me, but when I was younger and I saw celebrities on TV, the actual role-modeling(if there was any) was done by the characters, never really by the actors themselves. For example, in reference to your pictures, I still don’t know who actually played Cory, Topanga and Alex, despite having watched the large majority of both shows.

Hopefully parents these days are keeping enough of a tab on the media exposed to their kids, so that when they see Miley Cyrus they think of the girl from Hannah Montana(who is oozing with wholesome morals), rather than the slightly disturbed teen star taking provocative pictures of herself.

    • I hope you’re right. The difference is the actors from our shows were just actors. You never saw them out of character, so it’s easy to believe that’s how they were. But now, almost every teen actress becomes a singer, clothing designer, etc. Probably best seen in the Olsen twins (who I now love), these celebrities market themselves as a brand. So sure, MK and Ashley were Michelle Tanner, but as soon as they got a bit older, they were Mary Kate and Ashley.

    • Oh man, I remember Alex Mack. Whatever happened to her? I haven’t seen her in anything since 10 Things I Hate About You.

      • holy snap! Today as I walked into work I was thinking about Alex Mack and how it was one of my favorite shows at the time.

  2. I felt horribly dirty for following your first link. The lolcats-style comments on the photos were disturbing and I felt like it was some kind of kiddie-porn precursor.
